Art Conservation is an amalgam of interventive treatments with preventive methods to restore an artwork to the artist’s original intent. This work ensures that an artwork can be enjoyed for many years to come.
The field of Art Conservation is divided into three main areas -- paintings, paper, and objects. Often there is further specialization within these areas with crossovers not being uncommon.
Apollo Art Conservation specializes in paintings. Our conservators have experience with easel paintings, murals, and painted wooden sculptures.
If you have a piece of artwork that needs conservation, please contact us. Even if our conservators cannot help, we will be happy to refer you to someone who can.
An Art Conservator is a person trained in the handling, cleaning, and preservation of art. There are two main ways to train as a conservator, you either are apprentice trained or go through a rigorous master’s program.
Our Conservators have relevant master’s degrees and special certifications from prestigious American and European universities as well as substantial hands-on conservation experience with priceless, historically significant artworks.
While an art owner can undertake small housekeeping activities, like light dusting of a painting, most treatments should and need to be carried out by a qualified conservator. If a treatment is not properly carried out, the work of art can sustain serious damage. This damage often can be more costly to fix and, in some cases, cause irreparable harm that will destroy the artwork.
If you have a more specific question about your artwork and if it needs an actual conservator to carry out a treatment, please send us an email.
Art Conservation treatments take time, unfortunately a lot of time. Some treatments require substantial prep work before they can even be implemented. Others, like careful cleaning or repair tears, cannot be rushed. Trying to speed up the conservation process can lead to more damage to the artwork.
At Apollo, we provide upfront pricing because we fully understand how frustrating it is to visit a website and be unable to determine the cost of a product or service. While many sites may give you an hourly rate for thier services, it's not very helpful if you don't know how meny hours will be required to complete the treatment. Our Estimate Calculator will give you a reasonable idea of our price structure even before you contact us.
With Apollo, there is no need to take time out of your busy schedule to bring your painting to us, we come to you. We perform the analysis, write the condition report/treatment plan and give you the final quote at your home.
